Trains, planes and automobiles - and taxis, subways, trams, motorcycle taxis, and walking

Posted by Jeff.

Jim O’Donnell finished his part of the training on Monday afternoon so I accompanied him to Hong Kong to catch his flight Tuesday morning.

There are lots of ways to travel in this part of the world.  Here is a summary of my modes of travel in a 24 hour period from 3:30pm on Monday till 3:30pm on Tuesday.

3:30pm                 Jim’s host drove us to the ferry pier in her car.
4:20pm                 Ferry to Hong Kong.
6:30pm                 Bus to our lodging, the Booth Lodge.
7:30pm                 Subway from Yaumatei (Kowloon) to Central (Hong Kong Island).
8:00pm                 Walk from subway to Exchange Square bus terminus.
8:30pm                 Bus to the Peak – a high point of the city overlooking the amazing
                             Victoria Harbor.
9:30pm                 Peak Tram (funicular railway) down from The Peak to Garden Road.
9:45pm                 Bus to Star Ferry.
10:00pm               Star Ferry from Hong Kong Island to Tsimshatsui (Kowloon).
10:15pm               Bus from Tsimshatsui to Yaumatei (where our hotel is located).
10:30pm               Walk through the Temple Street Night Market, then back to the hotel.
7:45am                 Walk to the bus stop where Jim board the bus to the airport.
10:15am               Bus to Tsimshatsui (to a bookstore to buy a gift for my host).
11:00am               Subway to Sheung Wan where the ferry terminal is located).
12:30pm               Ferry to Zhuhai.
2:00pm                 Bus to Doumen.
3:30pm                 Motorcycle taxi from bus stop to Liri Tent Technology Company
where I visited a Taylor University doing an internship in Doumen.

You don’t have to know where all these places are to know that, wow, that is a lot of different ways to travel!  I’m looking forward to just a short car ride or so tomorrow!
